2021: a year to remember || i’m feeling ’22 ✨

Glossing over the fact that I’m nearly twenty days late in this recap, 2021 is gone already. How?!

2021 was a great year in so many ways – I have nothing but good memories. I got to go to school again, I revamped my blog, I learnt to play the piano… but mostly I think it was a better year than 2020 because we’d sort of come to terms with the pandemic.

This year got off to a not-so-great start, considering my family contracted the virus and we were stuck quarantining for the longest time. I haven’t gone outside my house in more than a month and still haven’t. Sometimes I’m just sick of the whole thing, but isn’t everyone?

To write this post, I went back to Google Photos and relived every moment of last year and it was so special and also odd how quickly we can forget. And that’s part of the reason why I write because it helps me remember and I cherish memory like nothing else.

january to april 🌼

Early January of ’21, we were visiting at my grandparents’ place and it’s so strange to see how things have changed – they moved, and now live about a block from us. Most of these tree/nature pictures are from their village. The Rapunzel sketch is from my Tangled: The Series phase in February when that was all my sister and I would watch on repeat, haha.

These last four were from April when it was spring and there were these jacarandas in bloom all through my city. I have no memory of that cat but it is so adorable and the guinea pigs – well, they haven’t aged at all.

Favourite post: Things I Learnt From the Pandemic. It’s not my best because I was probably just a couple months into blogging, but this spoke out a lot on my pandemic reflections.

Favourite song: drivers license – Olivia Rodrigo (and still is one of the best she’s released.)

may to august 🍹

Not me listening to New Year’s Day right now and “hold on to the memories” playing. This song is emotional as it is.

June was when school started for me and there are a lot of family birthdays in the succeeding months (literally seven, counting my twin cousins) so lots of cake, naturally. Being a guinea pig mom is fun – they never change.

The second one from the right is from late August, recording a dance with my best friend. (Suh, if you’re reading this right now, message, I still have the “behind the scenes” video… U-U) Also, I don’t think I took a single one of these pictures so props to my photographer/sister again.

Favourite post: Summer Diaries #4. It was a day in my life quarantined, and I had so much fun writing this one and *trying* to click nice pictures, ha.

Favourite song: What Makes You Beautiful – One Direction (because I went through a very long 1D phase then.)

september to december ❄️

And the last couple of months this year. Where we went on a hike in October, and we caught a rainbow, ending the year with a weekend-getaway kind of thing to a nearby waterfall where we rented out a cabin for the night with our whole extended family. That’s where the monkey & waterfall came from.

Favourite post: Finishing My First Draft – NaNoWriMo recap. It’s still so unbelievable that I got to write this??

Favourite song: All of Red (Taylor’s Version) because that’s literally all I listened to by the end of the year.

And that’s another year gone by. So quickly. These were funny, but everyone’s probably seen all of these already considering how late this is, haha.

15 Memes That Perfectly Sum Up How We Feel About The New Year – InspireMore

…and here we are. 2022.

Ever since 2020, we’ve all been nothing but excited to step into the new year because we’re all just holding on to hope. New years are a sort of fresh start, I guess? Like a reassurance that we’ve been given a new chance. It wasn’t easy to write this post because I had literally no motivation, but reading these other 2021 recaps were really fun so I ended up doing one:

It hasn’t started out great, what with my whole family falling prey to Covid, which was a really hard time, but then again, the whole world’s having a hard time. But here’s to a better year, and a happier time and may we all step into the light this year.

As for resolutions, I always make myself write them down; the regular ones: stay healthy, get good grades, sing and dance, repeat. But this year I wanted to make myself do things out of my comfort zone:

  • get my oversplits
  • read three non-fiction books
  • post consistently (watch me disappear for months now.)
  • write a book in April’s camp nano

I’m hoping I’ll get some of this done by the end of the year! And now we begin a new chapter in all of our lives. Here’s to 2022 – to hope, and to light, and to a better world.

Let's

How was your 2021? What are your resolutions for this year – and what excites you the most about a new year? Are you excited? I hope your 2021 was great 💖 Until next time xx
